Youth & Elders Program
Rainbow Bridge offers several programs designed to promote mutually beneficial
relationships for youth and elders. Included in the programs are an at-risk
youth program, literacy program, and a living history program. Rainbow Bridge
is recognized as a model for community based service-learning organizations.
The Youth and Elders program is mutually beneficial
for all participants; young people gain self-esteem, respect for
others, life skills, and academic skills. Elders receive companionship,
intellectual stimulation, and the chance to feel useful. Youth
are instructed through program workbooks, classroom instruction,
one-on-one training, and exercises to ensure they are prepared
to comfortably interact with their new friends.
The intergenerational programs of Rainbow Bridge reach out to
youth with positive options that give them the deeply gratifying
experience and joy that comes from making a positive difference
in the lives of others.
Family & Elders Program
This program facilitates the matching of individuals and families who become
companions, advocates, and extended families for nursing home elders who
have little or no visitation. When adopting seniors, individuals and families
are rewarded by the one-on-one relationships that are cultivated by learning
through the lives of others. The loneliness of the elders is then replaced
by the caring presence and continued support of the Rainbow Bridge volunteers.
The volunteers receive orientation, training, materials and on-going support
to ensure program success.
Business/Community & Elders
Program
Rainbow Bridge facilitates nursing home facility visitations by employees of
corporations and for community organizations. Corporations and Community Groups
benefit from the special bond created when working toward the common purpose
of providing companionship for the elders. Team spirit is enhanced as they,
together, make a difference.
